Looking back on preseason NFL picks & current NFL playoff picks: Jan 17th, 2017

– Gary Segars (twitter: @proseveregary)

Back in August, Chris and I made picks on team total wins and which teams would win divisions and which would make the playoffs.

Usually, these are really bad… and some of ours were… but for the most part, we did a pretty good job on our picks.

Oh… and we’re through 8 of 11 games in the NFL playoffs, and we’ve made picks on all of them so far.  We also put where we stand below.

Division Winners and Wild Card teams

Chris
❌ AFC North: Cincinnati Bengals
❌ AFC South: Jacksonville Jaguars
✅ AFC East: New England Patriots
✅ AFC West: Kansas City Chiefs
✅ AFC Wild Card: Oakland Raiders
❌ AFC Wild Card: Denver Broncos

❌ NFC North: Minnesota Vikings
❌ NFC South: Carolina Panthers
❌ NFC East: New York Giants
❌ NFC West: Arizona Cardinals
➖ NFC Wild Card: Seattle Seahawks
➖ NFC Wild Card: Green Bay Packers

Chris picked 2 division winners in the AFC, and correctly picked the Raiders in one of the Wild Card spots, and, in the NFC, he missed all 4 division winners, but did predict that the Seahawks and Packers would make the playoffs, although he had them in the Wild Card rather than winning their divisions.  Overall, Chris correctly predicted 5 of 12 playoff teams.

Gary
✅ AFC North: Pittsburgh Steelers
❌ AFC South: Indianapolis Colts
✅ AFC East: New England Patriots
➖ AFC West: Oakland Raiders
❌ AFC Wild Card: Cincinnati Bengals
➖ AFC Wild Card: Kansas City Chiefs

✅ NFC North: Green Bay Packers
❌ NFC South: Carolina Panthers
✅ NFC East: Dallas Cowboys
❌ NFC West: Arizona Cardinals
❌ NFC Wild Card: Minnesota Vikings
➖ NFC Wild Card: Seattle Seahawks

Gary picked 2 division winners in the AFC, and correctly picked the Raiders and Chiefs to make the playoffs, although he incorrectly picked the Chiefs as the Wild Card team and the Raiders as the division winner (those 2 were swapped). In the NFC, he predicted 2 division winners, and did predict the Seahawks to make the playoffs, although I had them in the Wild Card instead of winning the NFC West.  Overall, Gary correctly predicted 7 of 12 playoff teams.
