Podcast 82: Friday, May 5th, 2017

Gary and Chris welcome in John Martin, co-host of “Jason and John” on 92.9 ESPN in Memphis, to today’s show, but, first, the boys jump all over Lavar and Lonzo Ball’s new “Big Baller Brand” ZO2 sneaker debut.

The guys then discuss Nick Saban’s new contract and how it’s led back to the narrative of paying NCAA scholarship players, with Chris bringing up new ideas to change specific rules in a way that makes sense.

After that, the guys welcome in John Martin (from 92.9 ESPN in Memphis / @JohnMartin929 on Twitter) and start off discussing Shinedown and the Beale Street Music Festival before they hit on the Tubby Smith fit at Memphis, whether or not John, as a fan, is excited about a fresh start for the basketball program next year, what the Grizzlies should do about their future and the most likely player to sign elsewhere this offseason, The Rock running for President, and, finally, some Oakland Raiders talk to close out the interview.

Gary then moves Chris on to NFL talk, discussing Verizon’s exclusive deal with the NFL for global broadcast rights of the Jags/Ravens NFL game in London this year, and Bill Belichick bringing in a trick shot kicker to try out during mini-camp.

Finally, the guys explore the possibility of the ACC Network still launching, and discuss whether or not the SEC Network is profitable for ESPN.

Gary Segars

Gary began his first website in 1998 as a sophomore in high school, writing reviews of cds and live shows in the Memphis area. He became editor of his college newspaper, then moved towards a career in music. He started the infamous MemphisTider.com blog during the 2006 football season, and was lucky enough to get into blogging just before the coaching search that landed Nick Saban at Alabama. The month and a half long coaching search netted his site, which was known for tracking airplanes, over 1 million hits in less than 90 days. The website introduced Gary to tons of new friends, including Nico and Todd, who had just started the site RollBamaRoll.com.After diving into more than just Alabama news, Gary started up his first installment of WinningCuresEverything.com in 2012. After keeping the site quiet for a while, it was started back up in April 2016. Gary then joined forces with high school friend Chris Giannini and began a podcast during the 2016 football season that runs at least 2 times a week, focusing on college football, NFL football, and sports wagering, and diving into other sports and pop-culture topics.E-mail: gary@winningcureseverything.com Twitter: @GaryWCE
