The rebirth! Masters picks, etc…

Welcome in to the official rebirth of Winning Cures Everything.  I’ve been planning to do this blog for quite some time, and we’re looking to start some new things – facebook live videos, podcasts, gambling picks, etc.  Basically, just a way to get out there and spew some opinions.  Sports is my biggest hobby – mostly football and basketball, but I chime in on all sorts of topics from time to time, whether it’s politics, golf, women’s basketball, gambling, social issues, or anything else happening in the world that seems to be interesting.

Let’s start off with my Master’s picks for this year…

These are the picks I’ve taken.  The odds came through Bovada, and since the Masters is already rolling, the odds are, of course, always changing.  I got Jordan Speith at +900, but the last time I looked, he was +500 and was the favorite.

Jason Day +650
Rory McIlroy +800
Jordan Speith +900
Brandt Snedecker +5500
Dustin Johnson +1600
Rickie Fowler +1500
Zach Johnson +2500

I don’t have any major reason for taking these, other than they’re some of the biggest favorites, who played well in Majors last year, and Snedecker is a Vandy guy who made an appearance on Outkick the Show with Clay Travis a couple of days ago.  He sounded confident, so I figured “ehh, what the hell? why not?”

I’m going to try and do Monday, Wednesday, and Friday shows around 11am, and they shouldn’t take longer than about 20-30 minutes, depending on what all is happening at the time.  Of course, times are subject to change.  My soon-to-be wife, Jessica, will also chip in on a weekly podcast that we’ll release on SoundCloud as well.  Once we get that rolling, we’ll move along to distributing on iTunes and as many other podcast apps as we can get into.

Now, the topics will vary, but seeing as how I’m based in Memphis, there will be a good bit of talk about the goings on with the local scene.  The idea will be to keep it nationally relevant, because there’s obviously more going on that’s much more interesting than stuff that happens here.

If this is your first time reading anything of mine, let me introduce myself with a few bullet points.

  •  My name is Gary Segars
  • I work in the IT field
  • I’m engaged to be married (for the first time) in September
  • I have a 10 year old daughter
  • I went to school for journalism (and was the editor of our school newspaper)
  • I’m a singer and have been in touring bands for 15 years (currently in the band Prosevere)
  • I formerly ran several websites/blogs including MemphisTider.com, ManipulateMemphis.com, etc

That should be enough to give you an idea of what I do.  For years and years, I’ve been a massive sports talk fan, and since the internet pretty much allows anyone to do anything that they want to, I figured I would take a stab at running my own blog and podcast.  As any of my friends and family will tell you, I like to talk… a lot, and this seems like it should be natural for me.

So welcome to the jungle.  I’m sure we’ll have quite a bit of fun through the process of building this thing up.

Gary Segars

Gary began his first website in 1998 as a sophomore in high school, writing reviews of cds and live shows in the Memphis area. He became editor of his college newspaper, then moved towards a career in music. He started the infamous MemphisTider.com blog during the 2006 football season, and was lucky enough to get into blogging just before the coaching search that landed Nick Saban at Alabama. The month and a half long coaching search netted his site, which was known for tracking airplanes, over 1 million hits in less than 90 days. The website introduced Gary to tons of new friends, including Nico and Todd, who had just started the site RollBamaRoll.com.After diving into more than just Alabama news, Gary started up his first installment of WinningCuresEverything.com in 2012. After keeping the site quiet for a while, it was started back up in April 2016. Gary then joined forces with high school friend Chris Giannini and began a podcast during the 2016 football season that runs at least 2 times a week, focusing on college football, NFL football, and sports wagering, and diving into other sports and pop-culture topics.E-mail: gary@winningcureseverything.com Twitter: @GaryWCE
